**SOMIRENEC holds Peace Caravan event to promote peace**
Social Ministry Research Network Centre (SOMIRENEC) conducted a successful peace caravan activity with the theme ‘Kudumisha Amani wakati wa uchaguzi ni jukumu letu (Kempur ngo kalya osiswo kura kmi parakunyo).
The activity brought together different peace actors including the National Government, County Government of west Pokot, Uniservitate, Tangaza University College ,Peace Monitors as well as local artists.
Pokot Central Sub County Assistant County Commissioner (ACC) Erick Okachi urged the residents to observe peace during the electioneering period noting that elections come only once and life goes on as usual afterwards. “We should maintain peace before, during and after elections”.
Pokot Central Police Commander Bamfort Surwat lauded the efforts put together by several stakeholders to organize such an activity. “This activity is very timely and significant”
He further noted that; “Elections will come and go but your neighbor will still be with you. I urge you all to maintain peace and avoid being used by politicians to spread hate.”
The peace caravan which was flagged off in Turkwel by Pokot Central Sub County Police Commander had stop overs at Nasolot, Sarmach, Lami Nyeusi, Orwa and Sigor with one message of Peace during the campaign period.
