Nutrition during the school years is crucial for the physical, mental, and psychosocial development of children and adolescents aged 6 to 19 years. It is estimated that millions of children around the world go to school on an empty stomach Every day, Attending classes hungry severely impacts children’s abilities to learn, to thrive, and to realize their full potentials. SOMIRENEC through the Education program provided #foodstuffs to 864 school going children within Nairobi, Nyeri and Limuru counties.
School feeding program is an intervention that regularly provide nutritious foods to school going children, the school meals in schools has had both nutrition and health benefits to the children, which include alleviating hunger, reducing micronutrient deficiency and anemia, preventing overweight and obesity, improving school enrollment and attendance, increasing cognitive and academic performance, provide support to the children’s parents and guardians and contributing to gender equity in access to education.
