Women engagement at the grass root for Sustainable Peace – West Pokot County

Boma peace meetings are fundamental in ensuring that women’s voices are heard and that decisions made are gender sensitive.  In our efforts to build peace through Community dialogue, in one of our resilience project #USTAHIMILIVU in West Pokot County, SOMIRENEC  in collaboration with the National Government and Local Administration held a 2 day Boma peace meeting at Kamokong’wa and Lochacha areas. The meeting was held in one of the community member’s residence.

Kamokong’wa area has been greatly affected by the clashes between Pokot and Turkana. During the meeting, women expressed their fear on the impact of the raids which has caused panic and tension in their Boma. Shortage of water, food and children not going to school due to insecurity and long distances was also discussed. The Boma has over 500 households who have relocated to safer grounds of Kamokong’wa far from their original home.
