Location of intervention: Barpello, Baringo county (Barpello Dispensary)

Tiaty East constituency in Baringo county faces significant challenges in Maternal healthcare with a maternal mortality rate higher than the national average. Challenges such as poverty and limited education, poor infrastructures and long distance to the hospitals, limited access to maternal healthcare services, drought and food insecurity and cultural norms that prevent women from accessing healthcare services in hospitals. SOMIRENEC in partnership with acquifera APS is implementing a maternal health and sanitation project in Barpello, tiaty east constituency. The project aims at strengthening maternal healthcare services in barpello through capacity building of medical personnels and community health volunteers and community members, provision of water tanks, construction and equipping of maternity wig, provision of birth package to new mothers and supply of medical PPEs. The newly constructed maternity has improved on the access to maternal and child healthcare services in barpello and its environs as many women and girls seek services and deliver at the dispensary as compared to previous years.
